How long has the Co-Op been in business?

The Central Co-Op is a state-licensed, non-denominational preschool that has nurtured long lasting relationships with young children and their families since 1960.

Is the preschool licensed?

Yes, we are licensed by the Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) Of Massachusetts.

Can I bring my child in for a pre-enrollment visit?

Yes, visits are welcomed and encouraged. Contact the office to set up an appointment.

What is the adult child ratio?

The stare ratio of ( 1:10 (1 teacher to 10 children). Our classroom sizes allow for a 2:13 ratio (2 teachers 13 children)

What if my child is sick on the day I am scheduled to be the parent helper?

Simply let us know you are not able to attend that day.

What exactly constitutes a “cooperative”?

Our parents are involved with the school in many different ways. Parents have the option of helping in the classroom as parent helpers, and volunteering time and talents toward our fundraising efforts. The Board of Directors is comprised of parents, and oversee the financial and operational functions of the school.

Are parents welcome to visit and interact with staff?

Yes! We have an open door policy! We pride ourselves on strong parent communication and support. Parents are informed at pick up of any developments during the school day and we regularly email or phone parents to discuss development. We offer progress reports twice during the year, and have a monthly newsletter detailing all school activities. We also provide regular email communication of upcoming events.

What are my options for drop off and pick up?

AM drop is is either the front door or the side door (door by playground) bring your child into the buliding and get them settled. We do ask that you allow them to put their things away ie coats, backpacks ect. to help promote independence. Please be sure that your childs teacher knows that they have arrived. Mid day pick up is drive up by the side door. Carpool numbers will be provided. At PM pick-up we will ask that your ring the buzzer at front door and come in to get you child.

What are the teacher’s credentials and training?

All of our teachers are certified and/or have their degrees in a relevant field, such as early childhood development, child psychology or elementary education.

What about safety? What measures do you take to keep children safe?

Our doors are locked at all times except for arrival and pick-up. Parents that co-op in the class go under the same background checks as the teachers in the class. Children are kept in the classroom until the parent comes into that classroom to dismiss them. Notes are needed if someone other than the parent/gaurdian is going to pick them up; ID’s will be checked to ensure the security of the children. Regular inspections of equipment and materials are conducted.

Do you have field trips?

Yes. We have 1 trip a year. We usually plan the field trip toward the end of the school year. It is very exciting for the students because some of them have never been on a bus before. It is good preparation for the school bus to elementary school. We do offer other in house “field trips” or enrichment programs throughout the year.

What about snacks?

Central Co-Op is an Allergy Aware Zone. Peanut products and nuts of any kind are not served.
